Food Safety & Quality Manager At Talabat Mart
Role Summary
We’re looking for a Food Safety & Quality Manager to join the team and focus on growing our own Grocery Store “tMart”, which is the region’s first cloud store concept offering 30-minutedelivery of groceries at hypermarket prices. The service has expanded rapidly across Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Egypt, Oman and Iraq!
This role will be driving the implementation and continuous compliance, monitoring of the technical requirements and procedures outlined in the Group Food Safety Policy and Food Safety Manual in the local market.
What’s On Your Plate?
Collaborate with other departments locally and centrally in order to achieve business objectives.
Ensure that all employees receive the designated food safety & quality training. Localise and create of training materials, templates, procedures
Investigate reports of food safety and quality issues at store level and vendor/supplier level
Support in the continued development and rollout of a serious customer complaint escalation process locally.
Communicate the receipt of any allegations of food poisoning, foreign bodies or local authority department visits to stores and any other interested parties and arrange initial responses.
Liaise between Local Authority Enforcement Officers in cases of informal or legal action.
Management for withdrawals and recalls of products and serious incidents
Ensure that all local food safety authority enforcement action is complied with.
Ensure adherence to legislative food safety requirements.
Monitor regulatory developments with a potential impact on local business entities and initiate internal measures accordingly.
Highlight procedures which need to be reviewed with respect to food safety due to operational or regulatory changes locally.
Provide technical support where required on food safety and quality management.
Manage food safety and quality of product assortment (own branded and private label), external laboratory testing, preparing and reviewing documentation for food product (product specification and product approvals, labelling, nutritional information, supplier information requests and audits), Mystery shopper and product sampling at store level.
Analyse customer complaint trends and indicators. Contribute to the continuous development of food safety KPIs, monitor, analyze and report on these to the relevant business stakeholders to support management review and ensure food safety objectives are met.
Health & Safety
Ensure that H&S risk assessments are in place for any existing and new processes within store operations and that the control measures are being implemented properly
Design and implement the H&S inspection programme and be involved in audits and the close-out of corrective actions.
Develop communication processes to keep staff and management informed of H&S priorities.
Lead investigations into accidents and other reports (e.g. near misses).
Work with local operations and central team to ensure that there is a suitable maintenance plan to safeguard H&S
Develop and deliver H&S training, and maintain competency records for staff
What Did We Order?
Degree in food science or related field
5+ years of experience managing Food Safety and Quality/ Health and Safety in a large scale retail grocery, foodservice or manufacturing environment
Fluent proficiency in the local language(s) and English
Proven HACCP knowledge and H&S Standards
Experience leveraging technology to drive process improvements.
Program management and experience of managing program change across multiple store locations
Knowledge of food safety of local/regional laws and regulations and food trading standards
Experience interacting and engaging with Authorities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional organisational skills
Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
